Have you ever wondered the impact effective gym floor cleaning can have on your training, business and health? No? We don't blame you. It's not a fun subject, but it is important. Whether you're the owner of a gym or have a space at home for you to train, knowing the best way to clean your flooring can have many benefits. Here, we'll look at the benefits of regular cleaning and break down how to clean each type.
Firstly, let's explore at those benefits:
As a gym owner, having a clean, nice-looking floor sets the tone; you want your members looking after the place. If you don't care about how it looks, your members won't either.
Now let's look at how to clean each type of gym flooring...we have lots of variations of gym flooring, but our two best sellers.
Warning: Depending on the size and traffic in your gym space, this may seem overboard, but you need to stay on top of things, a weekly mop is necessary for commercial gyms.
Daily Cleaning:
Dry sweep and vacuum (soft bristle broom/dust mop/vacuum to clear dust + dirt)
Damp mop - use warm water and/or neutral pH cleaner (example: Diversey Stride Neutral Cleaner)
AVOID: Fully soaking the floor - prolonged water exposure can seep through seams/edges.
Weekly Cleaning:
Auto or Manual Scrub - Using a low-speed buffer or auto scrubber with soft nylon brush (or red pad)
Apply a neutral pH cleaner - see above example. (always check the label!)
Rinse thoroughly with clean water to remove soap residue.
Use wet vac or a mop to dry fully.
Daily Cleaning:
Dust Mop or Vacuum with a soft brush attachment to remove any initial dust and debris (If possible, turn of the vacuum's Beater Bar to avoid damaging the floor)
Damp Mop - using warm water and a neutral pH cleaner (see above example)
- Use a microfibre mop for best results.
Again, don't fully soak the floor. Although both SBR and EPDM flooring is non-porous, excessive water over time can be detrimental.
Weekly Cleaning:
Scrub the surface - especially the heavy-use areas. Use soft brush/scrub pad
(Avoid using abrasive pads as these can scratch the surface)
Power Scrub the whole floor
Use a low-speed buffer for areas with stains (or auto-scrubber)
After scrubbing, rinse the floor with lukewarm water
Use wet vac or mop to dry
Comparing the 2 flooring types:
To conclude, it's vital that gym flooring is properly maintained. The cleaning itself doesn't massively differ between floor types; however, the exposure to elements and strength of cleaning chemicals needs to be understood before deciding which type to go for. A well-maintained floor extends it's lifespan, saving you money in the long run.
We hope this has provided an insight into the cleaning and maintenance of each floor type but if you have any questions, please don't hesitate to shoot us a message or drop us an email at team@rechargefitness.co.uk

Very informative post! Regular floor cleaning in gyms really makes a big difference — not just for hygiene, but also for keeping the flooring in good condition and ensuring a safe environment for everyone. Loved how you explained the difference between SBR and EPDM cleaning methods!
