Bristols Best Gyms
We spent time exploring some of the best independent gyms in Bristol to find out what makes them stand out as some of the leading fitness spaces in the South West. From strength-focused facilities to community-driven studios, each gym has its own character and approach to creating a place where members feel at home. We spoke with owners and coaches to get a real insight into what goes into building not just a gym, but a community. This page brings together those visits to highlight the passion, quality, and energy that make Bristol one of the UK’s top fitness cities.
Disclaimer: We haven’t worked with every gym featured here, but that hasn’t influenced who made the list, it’s all about showcasing Bristol’s best. At Recharge Fitness we support gyms and home set-ups across the UK, so if you’re looking to upgrade your space, get in touch or explore our shop to see how we can help.
Trojan Fitness

When we visited Trojan Fitness, we sat down with Matty, the owner, to hear how the gym has grown into one of the UK’s most respected training spaces. Stepping inside feels like entering a true old-school gym, filled with memories, awards and rare equipment that gives Trojan its authentic and inspiring character. Amongst the classic kit, there are also pieces of our own Recharge Fitness equipment, from barbells and bumper plates to kettlebells, all holding up to the demands of a gym where nothing gets an easy ride.
But Trojan isn’t just about the weights. What really sets it apart is the community. When long-time member and close friend of Matty’s, Syd Lawrence, was diagnosed with NMD, the Trojan family rallied together to raise over £100,000 in support. Matty even ran a marathon in full cricket gear, with zero training, to raise funds for his friend.
Trojan proves the best gyms are more than just places to train, they’re places where friendships grow, challenges are faced together, and community spirit shines as brightly as the gym’s reputation.
